The brief

Founded in the ‘60s, D&AD’s yellow pencil is arguably the world’s most coveted and recognised award in the creative communities. But their identity had lost its consistency and visibility over nearly 40 years, and they asked us to help them get it back.

The solution

We centred the original marque in a yellow hexagon, clearly representing D&AD as the lead in the pencil. We also advised that to be the authority on creative excellence, they needed to practice what they preach.

The result

Following our brand refresh in 2007, D&AD enjoyed their most successful awards year ever in 2008, with more than 25,000 pieces of work entered from 67 countries around the world. We have also helped to raise their international profile by winning several global design awards for the branding work – from their competitors!
